But hopefully I can save someone else from thinking they could get a decent, custom made shoe from an online provider. I won’t say I’m at all surprised, though I was hopeful to be proved wrong after ordering. The shoes themselves are very well assembled and sturdy. I will give them points for construction though. These are akin to what I’d expect from the show department at my local Walmart. Seriously, I’ve seen better material used in a pair of Steve Madden shoes. The “Italian Calf Leather” was actually a sad pleather knockoff. ![]() Opening the box on arrival was like being slapped in the face with a bottle of modelling glue the overpowering aroma of plastic and chemicals was strong. Sadly the same can be said of the “leather”. The strap buckles are flimsy, cheaply made affairs that I wouldn’t find it the least bit surprising to discover were made of plastic. What I can’t ignore is the quality of the materials used. I can chalk that up to a simple mistake and get them remade. Let’s ignore the fact that they recommended a size (based on exact measurements provided by me) many sizes too small. Unfortunately what I ultimately received was not at all what was advertised. The overall process was simple, and shipping from Spain only took two weeks from the date of ordering. The design process was actually fun, and the degree to which I could customize my shoes was impressive. ![]() I ordered a simple monk strap penny loafer made in calf leather, in a medium shade of brown (I’d use Cole Haan’s British Tan color as a reference). Worst case I’d have a pair of shoes to donate to a thrift store. I decided that for $200 USD I was willing to risk it. I’d heard bad things about Hockerty’s MTM garments, but the few reviews of their custom shoes I could find were mostly positive. I wanted to get a decent pair of shoes to match, but with my small and wide feet (size 7EE) I had no luck in stores outside of a single pair of Santoni oxfords that were more money than I was willing to spend. As a bit of back story: I’m getting married this July, and in preparation I’ve had a beautiful three piece Samuelsohn suit made to measure.
